New Topography is a recent series of photographs evolving from my curiosity with the rapidly changing urban environment of America, in particular, Los Angeles and the neighborhoods closest to the LA River. The buildings, warehouses and bridges of Los Angeles are rich in history, but gentrification and “progress” are rapidly taking their toll on the past. In many cases, there is little documentation of the changes; recording them in photographs is the last opportunity to save them from oblivion. I hope these images will challenge the viewer’s own assumptions about humanity’s endeavor to shape the environment, natural and urban, and of our indiscriminate interaction with the material world.
